Why heat works
Heat reaches deep into mattresses and furniture. Bed bugs and their eggs die when held above about 50°C for long enough.
A thorough heat-treatment day targets hidden activity, with further treatment where required.
Furniture can often be retained, with treatment planned to minimise disruption and follow-up where required.
Heat is the main treatment, with limited targeted products where appropriate
How it works
Professional bed bug heat treatment uses specialist equipment to raise the temperature of the treatment area to levels lethal to bed bugs and their eggs.
Heat is circulated throughout the space, reaching furniture, mattresses, cracks and other areas where bed bugs hide. Temperatures are monitored throughout the treatment to ensure the required heat reaches key areas and is maintained for sufficient time.
Your treatment journey
01
Tell us what you’ve found and which areas are affected. We’ll assess your situation and provide a free estimate, with an inspection arranged where required.
02
Before your appointment, we’ll provide clear preparation instructions covering access, belongings and any heat-sensitive items.
03
Our technicians set up specialist heating equipment, fans and temperature sensors throughout the treatment area. The property is then brought to the required temperatures while people and pets remain safely outside.
Bed bugs and their eggs die when held above about 50°C for long enough. We heat rooms to 50–60°C and hold that heat until the hardest-to-reach spots stay above 50°C. Rooms don’t heat evenly, so we place temperature monitors in known cold spots and hard-to-reach areas.
04
We monitor temperatures throughout the treatment, making adjustments where needed to ensure heat reaches key areas where bed bugs may be hiding.
05
Once treatment is complete, we’ll advise when you can re-enter and provide guidance on cleaning, monitoring and what to look out for afterwards.
Compare the options
When it comes to pest control, heat treatment outperforms traditional chemical methods. Unlike sprays that may require multiple visits and still struggle to eliminate eggs, heat penetrates deep into mattresses, furniture, and walls destroying all life stages. Yes. Before the appointment, we provide instructions covering access, heat-sensitive belongings and any laundry or other preparation needed. Follow the guidance for your booking, as requirements vary with the property and treatment plan. If a preparation step cannot be completed, tell us in advance so we can discuss it. Your technician will check the agreed areas before work begins.
Read our heat-treatment preparation guide for more detail.
Most treatments are completed within a day. Every job is different: timing depends on the size and layout of the property, how much is in it and how far the infestation has spread. The room needs time to heat up, then the heat is held until our monitors show the coldest spots have stayed above 50°C, and then it cools before you go back in. In most homes you can return 2 hours after treatment, unless your technician advises otherwise.
Larger homes may require more than one day for successful treatment, and commercial properties will vary based on the number of rooms or areas that need treating. Some infestations need a return visit, which is covered by our guarantee where the conditions are met.
Bed bug heat treatments start from £895. The final quote depends on the property size and layout, the agreed treatment areas and the work required. We provide an itemised quote after assessment. Guarantee eligibility and any follow-up treatment depend on the service scope and terms.
Heat treatment can target all life stages while reducing reliance on widespread insecticide application.
Controlled heat can affect adults, nymphs and eggs when suitable temperature and exposure time are achieved. Chemical-only programmes depend on product performance, application and follow-up visits. The most appropriate approach depends on the property and infestation.
Our service is heat-led, with limited targeted products or diatomaceous earth used where appropriate as part of the IPM plan. People and pets must leave the treatment area, and the technician will confirm when re-entry is appropriate.
Heat acts during the treatment when bed bugs and eggs receive sufficient temperature and exposure time. A single room-temperature reading does not confirm success throughout the property. Follow our aftercare and monitoring guidance, and report evidence of renewed live activity so we can assess it under the applicable service terms.
Yes, you will need to leave your property during the heat bed bug treatment. This includes any pets that you might have. Once the treatment is over and your property has cooled down to a safe temperature, our team will let you know, so you can head back inside.
