Local bed bug specialists
ThermoPest provides specialist bed bug heat treatment in Southampton across Portswood, Highfield and Shirley and surrounding areas. We work with homeowners, tenants, landlords, letting agents and student-accommodation providers, treating homes, flats, shared houses, HMOs and managed accommodation with a heat-led approach tailored to the property and infestation. University sources highlight Portswood and Highfield as key student-accommodation areas, while Shirley adds a broad mix of flats, rented homes and family properties.
Our treatments are carried out by dedicated bed bug technicians from a BPCA- and NPTA-member company. We use professional heat equipment and monitor temperatures throughout the treatment so heat reaches the areas bed bugs use as harbourage, targeting every life stage including eggs. Our heat-led treatment plans include tailored aftercare and further treatment where required. Qualifying whole-property treatments carry a 12-week treatment guarantee, subject to the terms.

How it works
Bed bugs and their eggs die when held above about 50°C for long enough. We heat rooms to 50–60°C and hold that heat until the hardest-to-reach spots stay above 50°C. Temperature probes placed in beds, furniture and along skirting boards give live readings, so your technician can see when every area has reached and held treatment temperature.
A common Southampton job is a student HMO in Portswood with four or five bedrooms off one staircase. We heat each affected room and the furniture in it, and check the landing and shared areas where bed bugs may have moved between rooms. Most treatments are completed within a day, and residents can usually move back in after about 2 hours, unless your technician advises otherwise.
If you have recently come back from a cruise or ferry trip, let us know, as suitcases and travel bags can often be heated as part of the treatment. Qualifying treatments carry our 12-week guarantee. See how our heat treatment works

Local insight
Southampton is a port city first, and that shapes how bed bugs reach local homes. Cruise passengers, ferry travellers and people who work on the docks bring luggage and work bags through the city every week, and a single hitchhiking bug in a suitcase is enough to start a problem once it reaches a bedroom.
Housing varies a great deal across the city. Portswood, Highfield and St Denys have streets of older terraces and semi-detached houses let to students at the University of Southampton and Solent University, while Shirley and Bitterne have a mix of family homes, flats above shops and smaller rented properties. Shared houses change hands every summer, and furniture often stays behind or is passed on to the next group of tenants.
The city centre also has hotels and apartment blocks used by business travellers and people waiting to board ships. If you notice bites, blood spots on bedding or small dark marks along mattress seams, especially after a trip, it is worth acting quickly before the bugs spread to other rooms.

Pricing
Whole-property bed bug heat treatment in Southampton starts from £895. What you pay depends on the size of the property, the number of rooms involved and how much furniture needs treating. A studio flat near the city centre takes less time and equipment than a Portswood or Highfield HMO with several bedrooms.
We also consider access, such as upper-floor city-centre flats with limited parking, or larger family homes in Bitterne and Shirley. You will get a clear price once we understand the property, and qualifying treatments include our 12-week guarantee. Read more about our bed bug treatment prices.
Reviews
I rarely leave reviews, but the service I got from ThermoPest was brillaint. My flat in Notting Hill had a stubborn bed bug issue that two previous companies failed to get rid of. ThermoPest were different – super thorough, really respectful of the property, and most importantly, the bed bugs are GONE.

I contacted ThermoPest after reading about their heat treatment method and I’m so glad I did. Gavin explained the whole process and we booked in. Since the bed bug treatment it’s been over a month and we’ve had zero signs of bed bugs since.

We’d been dealing with bed bugs for a couple of months in our London flat and it was a nightmare. At first, we tried sprays and DIY methods, but the problem just kept coming back. We were honestly at the point of thinking we’d have to replace our mattress and furniture.
That’s when a friend recommended ThermoPest. From the start, they were really reassuring and explained how their bed bug heat treatment in London works. The technicians arrived on time, set everything up, and were very professional throughout.

Council pest control services vary and can change, so check Southampton City Council’s website for what it currently offers and any charges. Many people choose a specialist for heat treatment. Our guide to council vs private bed bug treatment explains the differences.
It depends on the tenancy and how the bed bugs arrived. Landlords are often responsible where an infestation was there before the tenant moved in or is spreading through the building, while a tenant may be asked to pay if they brought bed bugs in. In a converted house or a block, other flats may also need checking, so talk to your landlord or letting agent early. Our guide on what to do if your landlord won’t treat bed bugs sets out the steps.
Yes. We treat student lets and HMOs near the University of Southampton and Solent University, in Portswood, Highfield, St Denys and across the city. All bedrooms and shared rooms usually need to be included, and we give clear preparation advice to every tenant.
Unpack away from the bedroom, check seams, zips and pockets with a torch, and wash and tumble dry clothes on a hot setting. If you see live bugs or dark spots, our guide to bed bugs in luggage explains what to do next.
