How it works
Bed bugs and their eggs die when held above about 50°C for long enough. We heat rooms to 50–60°C and hold that heat until the hardest-to-reach spots stay above 50°C. Heat travels into mattress seams, bed bases, sofas, skirting boards and the joints of furniture, so adults, nymphs and eggs are all dealt with in the same treatment.
A Tyneside flat in Heaton or Fenham is a good example. Bed bugs can sit in the floorboards and skirting where the upper and lower flats meet, so we place temperature probes along those edges as well as around the bed, and we may advise checking the flat above or below. Most treatments are completed within a day, and you can usually move back in after about 2 hours, unless your technician advises otherwise.
