Local bed bug specialists
ThermoPest’s bed bug specialists cover Broomhill, Crookes and Burngreave and surrounding areas, providing specialist bed bug heat treatment in Sheffield for homeowners, tenants, landlords, letting agents and student-accommodation providers. We treat homes, flats, shared houses, HMOs and managed accommodation, with each job planned around the property layout and where bed bug activity is present. The University of Sheffield describes Broomhill and Crookes as neighbourhoods with large student populations, while Burngreave adds dense terraces and rental housing.
Bed bugs are our specialist area rather than one of many general pest-control services. ThermoPest is a BPCA- and NPTA-member company, and our technicians use professional heat equipment with live temperature monitoring to target adults, nymphs and eggs. Our heat-led treatment plans include tailored aftercare and further treatment where required. Qualifying whole-property treatments carry a 12-week treatment guarantee, subject to the terms.

How it works
Bed bugs and their eggs die when held above about 50°C for long enough. We heat rooms to 50–60°C and hold that heat until the hardest-to-reach spots stay above 50°C. Our technicians place temperature probes in the places bed bugs favour, such as mattress seams, bed frames, skirting boards and sofa joints, and watch the readings live so no room is left short.
A typical Sheffield job might be a three-storey student terrace in Crookes, with bedrooms on every floor and an attic room up top. We plan the heat room by room so the top floor and the ground floor reach the same temperature, and we give housemates and landlords clear preparation advice beforehand.
Most treatments are completed within a day, and you can usually move back in after about 2 hours, unless your technician advises otherwise. Qualifying treatments are covered by our 12-week guarantee. See how our heat treatment works

Local insight
Much of Sheffield’s housing was built for its steel and cutlery workers, and long rows of Victorian and Edwardian terraces still climb the hillsides in Walkley, Hillsborough, Sharrow and Burngreave. Homes here often share party walls, cellars and loft voids, which gives bed bugs routes from one house to the next if a problem is left untreated.
The west of the city is shaped by the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University. Large terraced houses around Broomhill, Crookes and Ecclesall Road are let room by room, and the yearly cycle of tenants moving in and out, often with second-hand beds and sofas, is a common way for bed bugs to arrive unnoticed. Purpose-built student blocks and new apartments in the city centre and Kelham Island add to the rented housing mix.
Sheffield is also a busy place to visit, with football at Hillsborough and Bramall Lane, the Crucible and a steady flow of rail passengers at the Midland Main Line station. Hotels, short lets and anyone who travels often benefit from checking luggage and bedding regularly.

Pricing
Whole-property bed bug heat treatment in Sheffield starts from £895. The final price depends on the size and layout of the property, how far the infestation has spread and how much preparation is needed. A tall terrace with an attic bedroom or a student HMO with five or six let rooms takes more equipment and time than a two-bedroom flat, and steep streets with limited parking can affect how we set up on the day.
We confirm the price after a survey or a detailed conversation about the property, so landlords and tenants know what is included before we start. Qualifying treatments carry our 12-week guarantee. See our bed bug treatment prices for what is included and the full guarantee terms.
Reviews
We ended up needing bed bug heat treatment in London after bringing some home from a hotel stay. Luckily we spotted it pretty quick, so it wasn’t a full on infestation. The guys came round, checked it out and said it only needed a spray which sorted it fast.
They were friendly, explained what they were doing and didn’t make a big drama out of it. Glad we called them when we did, saved us from a much bigger problem. Thanks
Jessica Macintyre
Recently had my flat heat treated in London against bed bugs, from start to finish they were professional and got the job done. Thank you Gavin and the team.

I rarely leave reviews, but the service I got from ThermoPest was brillaint. My flat in Notting Hill had a stubborn bed bug issue that two previous companies failed to get rid of. ThermoPest were different – super thorough, really respectful of the property, and most importantly, the bed bugs are GONE.

I would highly recommend their services to anyone dealing with a bedbug issue.

Council pest control services vary and can change, so check Sheffield City Council’s website for what is currently offered. Many residents choose a specialist for heat treatment, and our guide to council vs private bed bug treatment explains the differences.
It depends on the tenancy and how the bed bugs arrived, so speak to your landlord or letting agent early and keep a record of what you have found. Our guide for when a landlord won’t treat bed bugs sets out the steps for tenants in England.
Usually, yes. Bed bugs move between bedrooms, along shared walls and into communal areas, so we normally include every room in an HMO or student let and give each housemate clear preparation advice.
They can travel through shared walls, gaps around pipes and shared loft spaces in older terraces. If a neighbour has a problem, it is worth checking your own home too; read more about bed bugs coming from neighbours.
Most treatments are completed within a day, depending on the size of the property and the number of rooms. You can usually move back in after about 2 hours, unless your technician advises otherwise.
We travel out from London to treat homes across Sheffield, so we plan each job carefully before we arrive. Qualifying treatments carry our 12-week guarantee; see our pricing and guarantee page for details.
