Local bed bug specialists
ThermoPest provides specialist bed bug heat treatment in Portsmouth for homeowners, tenants, landlords, letting agents and student-accommodation providers, with local coverage including Southsea, Fratton and Cosham. We treat bed bugs in homes, flats, shared houses, HMOs and managed accommodation, adapting the treatment plan to the property layout and the areas where activity has been found. The University of Portsmouth identifies Southsea and Fratton as major private student-housing areas, while Cosham broadens the page to family and commuter properties.
Bed bugs are our specialist area rather than one of many general pest-control services. ThermoPest is a BPCA- and NPTA-member company, and our technicians use professional heat equipment with live temperature monitoring to target adults, nymphs and eggs. Our heat-led treatment plans include tailored aftercare and further treatment where required. Qualifying whole-property treatments carry a 12-week treatment guarantee, subject to the terms.

How it works
Bed bugs and their eggs die when held above about 50°C for long enough. We heat rooms to 50–60°C and hold that heat until the hardest-to-reach spots stay above 50°C. Temperature probes placed in beds, furniture and along skirting boards give live readings, so your technician can see when every area has reached and held treatment temperature.
In a typical Southsea terrace split into flats or let rooms, we look at each affected bedroom, the shared hallway and any furniture that moves between rooms, then plan the heat so it reaches bed frames, sofa joints and gaps behind skirting boards. Most treatments are completed within a day, and you can usually move back in after about 2 hours, unless your technician advises otherwise.
We give you clear preparation steps before we arrive and aftercare advice when we leave. Qualifying treatments carry our 12-week guarantee. See how our heat treatment works

Local insight
Portsmouth is unusual among English cities because most of it sits on Portsea Island, with streets of Victorian and Edwardian terraces packed closely together. In Southsea, Fratton, Buckland and Landport many of these houses have been split into flats or let room by room, so one infestation can affect several households under the same roof or on either side of a party wall.
The city has a large renting population. Students at the University of Portsmouth move between shared houses each summer, and people connected to the naval base and the dockyard often rent for shorter periods. Every move means beds, sofas and bags travelling between addresses, and second-hand furniture changing hands.
Portsmouth is also a gateway for travel. The ferry port, Gunwharf Quays and the seafront bring a steady flow of visitors, and the mainland side, around Cosham, is home to many commuters who travel by train each day. If you spot bites, small blood marks on sheets or dark spots along mattress seams, act early, as a small problem is easier to treat.

Pricing
Whole-property bed bug heat treatment in Portsmouth starts from £895. The final price depends on the size of the property, how many rooms are affected and how much furniture needs heating. A one-bedroom flat in Fratton is a different job from a large Southsea house let as an HMO with five or six bedrooms and a shared kitchen.
Access also plays a part. Parking can be tight on Portsea Island’s terraced streets, and upper-floor flats above shops on roads such as Albert Road or Commercial Road take longer to load in. We confirm the price once we understand the property, and qualifying treatments include our 12-week guarantee. See our bed bug treatment prices for more detail.
Reviews
I was gutted when I found bed bugs in my daughter’s room after she came back from uni. It was proper stressful, especially with her exams coming up. ThermoPest were brilliant, they sent a technician out the next day, and he was so calm and reassuring. The heat treatment took a few hours, and they even checked in a week later to make sure everything was okay. No more bugs, and my daughter’s finally getting a decent night’s sleep. Can’t fault them

Gavin from ThermoPest was brilliant to deal with and the situation was dealt with.

Haven’t been bitten since the treatment, after suffering for nearly six months. Massive thank you to the team.

Landlords are often responsible where an infestation was there before the tenant moved in or is spreading through the building, while a tenant may be asked to pay if they brought bed bugs in. Many Portsmouth lets are terraces or HMOs, so tell your landlord or letting agent early. Our guide on what to do if your landlord won’t treat bed bugs sets out the steps.
Yes. We treat student houses and HMOs in Southsea, Fratton and across Portsea Island. In a shared house all the bedrooms and shared areas usually need to be included, and we give clear preparation advice to every housemate before we arrive.
They can. Bed bugs can move through gaps around pipes, skirting boards and party walls, which is why we may advise checking the house next door when you live in a close terrace. Our guide can bed bugs come from neighbours? explains the signs.
