How it works

How Our Bed Bug Heat Treatment Works

Every Cornwall treatment we carry out is built around heat. Bed bugs and their eggs die when held above about 50°C for long enough. We heat rooms to 50–60°C and hold that heat until the hardest-to-reach spots stay above 50°C. Temperature sensors go into the places bed bugs favour, such as mattress seams, bed frames, skirting boards and sofa joints, and we watch the readings live throughout.

Take a seafront guest house in Newquay or Penzance with letting rooms over three floors: guests come and go, and bed bugs can travel between rooms in luggage. We plan the heat room by room so the top floor reaches the same temperature as the ground floor, and we fit the work around your bookings where we can. Older stone cottages with thick walls and deep window recesses get the same care.

Most treatments are completed within a day, and you can usually move back in after about 2 hours, unless your technician advises otherwise. Qualifying treatments carry our 12-week guarantee. See how our heat treatment works

Local insight

Local Bed Bug Insights for Cornwall Residents

Cornwall’s housing is a mix that bed bugs can exploit more than people expect. Granite and slate cottages, Georgian and Victorian townhouses in Truro and Penzance, post-war estates around St Austell and Bodmin and modern flats in Newquay all sit alongside a large stock of holiday lets, guest houses, B&Bs and holiday parks. Bed bugs do not come from dirt or damp; they travel in on luggage, bedding and furniture, so places with a steady flow of guests are naturally exposed.

Falmouth University brings students to Falmouth and Penryn, and many live in shared houses and converted flats where rooms change hands each year. Second-hand furniture moving between lets and seasonal staff accommodation can carry bed bugs from one property to the next, while the main railway line through Bodmin Parkway, St Austell, Truro and Penzance and the A30 bring visitors in from across the country.

If you notice bites, small blood spots on bedding or dark marks along mattress seams, act early. A smaller infestation is quicker to treat and less disruptive, which matters when you are running a let in the busy season.

Pricing

How Much Does Bed Bug Treatment Cost in Cornwall

Whole-property bed bug heat treatment in Cornwall starts from £895. The final price depends on the size and layout of the property, how far the bed bugs have spread and how much preparation is needed. A one-bedroom flat in Truro, a shared student house in Falmouth with several let rooms and a guest house in Newquay with a room on every floor are each quoted on what is actually there.

Access and travel play a part too. Narrow streets and limited parking in older town centres such as Falmouth and Penzance, flats above shops, and farmhouses or cottages down rural lanes all need more planning, and because we travel from London we agree the date well ahead. Qualifying treatments carry our 12-week guarantee. For a clear breakdown, see our bed bug treatment prices.

What Our Customers Say

I hired Thermopest after multiple unsuccessful attempts of having sprays with other companies. They completed the work in a single visit and I have not had an issue since. I personally think its worth the money and wish I had hired them initially. The whole team were helpful from speaking to Gavin on the phone to the team who came out to visit. I would recommend them to anyone having an issue with bed bugs. Thanks again.

Leione

Thermopest came out to do a bed bug heat treatment, I was told it would get rid of the problem in one visit. However a few days after the treatment we noticed live bed bugs. I called Gavin and he was able to send back another set of technicians to complete a second treatment. Since then we have been bed bug free, I will give 5 star since dealing with Gavin helped the process to go well.

Mateusz Golc

I rarely leave reviews, but the service I got from ThermoPest was brillaint. My flat in Notting Hill had a stubborn bed bug issue that two previous companies failed to get rid of. ThermoPest were different – super thorough, really respectful of the property, and most importantly, the bed bugs are GONE.

Richard Coulson

ThermoPest have done such a great job! I had got back from a trip and after a few week realised I had brought back bedbugs with me. All sorted on one treatment! Perfect.

FAQs

Bed Bug Treatment FAQs for Cornwall

Can’t see your question? Call 0808 189 2310 and speak to a specialist.

Do you cover all of Cornwall?

Yes. We are based in London and travel out to treat across Cornwall, including Truro, Falmouth, Newquay, St Austell, Penzance, Bodmin and the villages in between. Because of the distance, we plan Cornwall treatments ahead and agree the date and the preparation with you in advance.

Will Cornwall Council treat bed bugs for me?

Council pest control services vary and can change, so it is worth checking with Cornwall Council directly. Whoever you use, the whole affected area needs treating properly, not just one room. Our guide to council vs private bed bug treatment explains the differences.

Can you treat a holiday let or guest house between bookings?

Yes. We work with holiday let owners, guest houses and B&Bs, and we plan treatment around changeovers where we can. Most treatments are completed within a day, and you can usually move back in after about 2 hours, unless your technician advises otherwise. We also advise on checking rooms and linen between guests.

Who pays for bed bug treatment in a rented home in Cornwall?

It depends on the tenancy and on when the bed bugs arrived. Landlords are generally expected to deal with an infestation that was there before the tenant moved in, while a tenant may be asked to pay if bed bugs arrived later. We provide treatment records for both sides. See Bed Bugs and the Renters’ Rights Act for more.

Do you treat student houses in Falmouth and Penryn?

Yes. We treat shared houses and flats let to Falmouth University students, working with students, landlords and letting agents. Where rooms share walls or a building is split into flats, we advise on checking neighbouring rooms and flats too.

How long does treatment take, and is there a guarantee?

Most treatments are completed within a day, and you can usually move back in after about 2 hours, unless your technician advises otherwise. Qualifying treatments carry our 12-week guarantee, and we arrange further treatment where it is needed. See our bed bug treatment prices for the guarantee terms.
